Police and family have confirmed that a missing senior has been found alive after spending five days in the bush.

84-year-old Mary Byman was reported missing around 9:30 p.m. Wednesday, July 24.

Police say that Byman had last seen around 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday approximately 5 miles west of Piney, 3 miles east of Menisino, and just south of Provincial Road 201.

According to RCMP, Byman and a friend had been picking blueberries in the Spur Woods when they were separated. While one returned home, the other never did.

A number of resources were used to search for the woman, including RCMP, the Winnipeg Search and Rescue unit, as well as various airplane pilots and community members in the hopes of locating her.

Byman was found Sunday, July 28, late in the evening as volunteer searchers were preparing their camp for the night. They heard a woman shout "Please help me!" and located her.

Byman has been taken to hospital. There have been no details released on her condition.
