The RCMP says that a number of resources are continuing the search for the suspects of three murders.

Cpl. Julie Courchaine, Manitoba RCMP media relations officer, confirms that police received a tip about a possible sighting of the suspects on Sunday evening.

"Last night, at approximately 5 pm, the RCMP received a tip that two males matching the description of the wanted suspects were seen in York Landing, Manitoba. Based on the information received, the RCMP immediately deployed multiple resources to the community."

Courchaine calls the tip credible, and says the resources sent included the Emergency Response Team, Police Dog Services, Containment Team members, Major Crime Services and Air Services assets.

"Officers searched the York Landing area throughout the night and continue their efforts today. The Royal Canadian Air Force is also assisting today with the search."

No contact made

Courchaine says that officers on the ground have not made contact with the individuals who were reportedly seen at the York Landing landfill. "As such, the RCMP is not yet in a position to confirm that these are the wanted suspects." She says the RCMP's goal now is to "safely locate and apprehend the individuals and confirm their identities."

Residents of York Landing are understandably on edge. She says that there is "a heavy police presence in the area of York Landing and the RCMP’s priority is community safety.

"It is critical that residents of York Landing remain vigilant and stay indoors as much as possible with their doors locked, and to report anything suspicious by calling their local police immediately."

'Putting out as much information as possible'

Responding to complaints that there has been a lack of information given to the public, Courchaine says that the RCMP has been doing their best to get information out to the public.

"Every day we've been putting out confirmed details because we want to be the source that the public and the media comes to so that it's verified and accurate details."

Over the weekend a number of rumours surfaced about the latest details of the case, including that the two had been arrested on Winnipeg's Perimeter Highway.

"I think that some of the misinformation being spread over social media does create some issues, and so we just want to remind everybody that if there is something that you see on social media -- contact us, send it to us -- so we can confirm that."
