Public health officials in Ontario are reporting a second presumptive case of the new coronavirus.

Dr. David Williams, Chief Medical Officer of Health for Ontario released a statement early Monday morning that said that the second case is the wife of a man who is believed to be Canada's first presumptive case of the illness.

The province says the woman has been in self-isolation since arriving in Toronto with her husband last week.

Dr. David Williams says the woman tested positive for the virus at Ontario's public health laboratory.

He says given the fact that she has been in self-isolation, the risk to Ontarians remains low.

Public health officials say the woman's husband, a man in his 50s, had been showing mild symptoms on his flight from Guangzhou, China, to Toronto.

He remains in stable condition at Sunnybrook Hospital in Ontario.

Both diagnoses are considered "presumptive" until lab results from Winnipeg's National Microbiology lab can confirm the same positive results as the tests first conducted in Toronto.

Dr. Theresa Tam, Chief Public Health Officer of Canada says she expects to receive official confirmation later today.
