The spot where a vacant Dufferine neighbourhood home once stood is being investigated as the original location of a fire that spread to two neighbouring houses.

The Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service says that Selkirk Avenue, in between Parr Street and McKenzie Street, will remain closed as crews complete their work.

Thursday afternoon at 3:05, the WFPS responded to reports of a fire in a bungalow in the 700 block of Selkirk Avenue.

Crews arrived at the Selkirk Avenue home to find large amounts of smoke billowing from the home. They also witnessed flames pouring out of the structure, onto neighbouring homes.

Two nearby homes subsequently caught fire. One of the homes was vacant, having previously suffered from fire damage, and a home that was occupied was the second home to be affected by the nearby flames.

The vacant bungalow, which was previously damaged by a November 2018 fire, is believed to be the original location of the blaze.

In order to control the fire and distinguish the blaze, the WFPS called for heavy machinery to demolish the house.

At 3:58 p.m the fire was declared under control.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
