Severe thunderstorm watches are coming out in the southwest.

A severe thunderstorm watch has been issued throughout southwest Manitoba, including Brandon, Killarney and Minnedosa. These storms may be capable of producing strong wind gusts, large hail and heavy rain.

There is a chance of thunderstorms for the Winnipeg area as well, but Environment Canada doesn't think they will become severe.

"While thunderstorms are possible," said Natalie Hasell from EC. "We are not expecting [a severe thunderstorm] in the Winnipeg area."

A severe thunderstorm watch is currently out for:

  • Brandon - Neepawa - Carberry - Treherne
  • Killarney - Pilot Mound - Manitou
  • Melita - Bossevain - Turtle Mountain Provincial Park
  • Minnedosa - Riding Mountain National Park
  • Virden - Souris
