Winnipeg Harvest is growing stronger thanks to support it's receiving from local churches.

House of Healing Apostolic Ministries and Transformation Church have been serving the Sharing Surplus program with Winnipeg Harvest for several years now.

Sharing Surplus is a program where representatives from 10 food agencies come down to Winnipeg Harvest two times a week and assist in the packing and sending household products, cleaning supplies and everyday essentials to families in need.

Ryan Fray, Pastor at Transformation Church, has been involved in the program for eight years. “I get such a great feeling knowing that families in need will be receiving these necessary items. It is great to spread the word to newcomers at the church that if you need help, we are there for you”.

Pastor Ezra from House of Healing Apostolic Ministries has served in Sharing Surplus for over five years now. "I got involved through my association with Winnipeg Harvest. I read information online and in the newspaper about how we can assist those who are in need in the community."

Ezra says, "there are many people out there who are really in need of assistance. And even though some hope is working, there is not enough to provide them with money for living expenses. The Winnipeg Harvest forms part of a social wealth unit for people of that sort. I have also experienced the benefits of the program in helping children who are going to school so they are provided with clothing, books, supplies, and food. It provides a good social assistance for the vulnerable."

He discovers that "it provides a bridging for people who fall on hard times because of lack of employment or health issues. Another thing is there are many immigrants coming into the area who are benefitting from the food bank."

Ezra feels,"it's a very helpful program. People who donate to the Winnipeg Harvest are doing a terrific job in providing a social net for community members with life circumstances that require helping hands. This is exactly what the Lord wants us to do."
