A cold front is pushing into Manitoba and will make tonight's roads treacherous.

"We have a very strong cold front whistling through the province," said Terri Lang, meteorologist for Environment and Climate Change Canada. "We've seen temperatures drop 5 degrees in an hour."

Winnipeg could see 80 km/h gusts of wind along with 2 cm of snow flurries.

"What's really dangerous about this situation is that we've had melting of snow on the roads, so there is lots of water there," Lang warned. "It's going to freeze quite quickly, [plus] snow on there and lots of wind going on."

Temperatures should below freezing before evening and go down to a low of -11°C by midnight and continue to get colder throughout the morning.

Lang says the biggest issue will be the rapidly dropping temperatures which will layer ice on many roads, but the wind and snow may cause whiteout conditions in open areas as well.
