Runny noses and coughing fits are common in parts of Manitoba Tuesday as pollution thickens.

The heavy smell of smoke is present in Winnipeg and other areas as pollution from forest fires burning east of Berens River and west of Red Lake continue to be blown into parts of the province due to northeast winds. The smoke ias set to clear up by Wednesday, but Environment Canada says changing wind directions may change this.

Areas affected also include Red River Valley, the Whiteshell, Bissett, and the Interlake. Smoke may be heavier in some parts compared to others.

Symptoms

People may be experiencing sore eyes, tears, coughing and a runny nose with the smoke regardless of health status. If the cough persists or worsens, or the person is experiencing fatigue, shortness of breath, or chest pains, medical care is needed.
