RCMP shared an important message with its social media audience Friday morning.

A tweet from Manitoba RCMP this morning reminded their followers of the importance of contacting RCMP and local police directly for all crime reports, tips, or possible information you may have to share with authorities.

"We cannot accept reports of crime through social media," the online post read.

As stated by the RCMP Manitoba Twitter page (@rcmpmb), their account is not monitored at all times, making it a poor means of communicating relevant information to officers.

We cannot accept reports of crime through social media. If you have a tip, information to share or would like to report an incident, you must contact your local police. To find your local #rcmpmb detachment - Click here: https://t.co/4z5a1pAN7i

The Winnipeg Police Service (WPS) also states on their Twitter (@wpgpolice) that the account is not under 24/7 surveillance, and lists the appropriate contacts to call in both emergency and non-emergency situations.

"Do not submit reports via Twitter," their account states.

Over 260 tips were submitted to RCMP in the first nine days of their search for two teen fugitives believed to be hiding out in or around Gillam, Manitoba. During this time, RCMP reminded members of the public to submit their tips and information through calling their RCMP or their local police department directly.
