Starting Wednesday, take in an incredible display at FortWhyte Alive, courtesy of a lot of geese.

Fall signals the migration of thousands of geese and a common stopping point is FortWhyte Alive in Winnipeg. It also signals the start of an incredible display.

"Thousands of geese land on our Lake Devonian half an hour after the sun sets," said Jessica Jarosiewicz, the Public Programming Coordinator at FortWhyte.

To celebrate, FortWhyte hosts Sunset Goose Flights, where you're invited to enjoy an interpretive presentation, a bonfire, and snacks, while watching thousands of geese land in a spectacular sight.

"You can learn about why they migrate and their migratory patterns," Jarosiewicz said. "Plus some other interesting facts.

"For example, at the height of migration, there are more geese in Winnipeg than there are people."

Jarosiewicz says that the geese will land anywhere they can, but the four lakes and secluded space they have makes it a great landing zone. This is what leads to the landing pattern that happens every year.

Sunset Goose Flights take place at FortWhyte Alive from Wednesday until Sunday starting on September 20th. After 5:00 p.m., admission is $5 per person. Geese should start landing anywhere between 6:50 p.m. and 8:00 p.m., depending on the day. Find the sunset schedule online.

You can also bring the family out to Family Goose Day, which takes place on Sunday, October 1. It runs from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. with different crafts and scavenger hunts, plus a chance to watch the geese land when it's all over.
