The St. James community is working as a team to support over 180 people that were displaced by a devastating fire Friday evening.

The blaze broke out just after 7 p.m. in a four-storey apartment complex on Quail Ridge Road and Saskatchewan Avenue

The fire started on the fourth floor and rapidly spread to the roof. The entire building is being considered a complete loss.

On a community Facebook page, residents of a neighbouring apartment have opened up a common room to take donations for those who have lost everything in the fire.

They will be taking donations of everything from blankets to clothing and toys.

They will also be accepting monetary donations.

Anyone interested in helping out can stop by 180 Quail Ridge Road or call 204-298-9426.

Assiniboia West Recreation Association is also collecting donations.

Toys, clothes, animal food and toiletries can be dropped off at their skate building at 305 Morgan Crescent.
