A southern Manitoba highway is reopened after it was closed for several hours following a serious collision on Friday afternoon.

The crash occurred around 4:30 p.m. on Provincial Road 306, south of Plum Coulee, Man.

Emergency crews from Plum Coulee Fire Department, Altona/Rhineland Emergency Services, Altona Police, EMS, and RCMP all responded to the call. Eyewitnesses say that it was a two-vehicle collision.

STARS air ambulance also responded to the call, though it's unknown at this time how many people were transported to hospital or if there were any fatalities.

Highway 306 was closed from Highway 14 for one kilometre south until 10:55 p.m. while emergency crews responded and police investigated.

Eyewitnesses say that it appeared a southbound vehicle attempted to pass a semi when it collided head-on with a northbound vehicle. It's reported one, or possibly both of the vehicles, side swiped the semi and the trailer it was hauling. Eyewitnesses also indicated the semi was able to stay within its lane and come to a stop.

The RCMP did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
