A man who escaped custody last week has been located.

24-year-old Terry Dutko, an inmate from Stony Mountain Institution, took off on Jan. 10 during a supervised visit in Winnipeg.

On Monday, the Manitoba Integrated Violent Offender Apprehension Unit located Dutko at a home on Toronto Avenue in Selkirk.

With help from the Selkirk RCMP and RCMP Police Dog Services, they attempted to make an arrest. As they approached the home, Dutko was seen leaving from a back entrance, trying to flee.

He was placed under arrest but refused to comply with demands from police. Officers got their police dog involved, but Dutko continued to resist by kicking and punching the dog. Officers were eventually able to get him into custody, but not without injury.

Dutko was taken to hospital, where he was treated for injuries he sustained from his interaction with the police dog. He was then released back into custody.

Two officers, one from the Selkirk RCMP Detachment and a WPS officer, were injured as a result of the arrest. They were also treated and released.

Terry Dutko was returned to the custody of Stony Mountain Institution and will face charges including Unlawfully at Large, Resisting Arrest x2 and Assaulting a Police Officer x2.
