Firefighters are on the scene of a house fire in Winnipeg's North End early Wednesday morning, and have been battling the blaze for several hours.

Crews were called to the 400 block of College Ave shortly after midnight for a smoke investigation, the City of Winnipeg's Pulse Point app says.

Several units responded to the call the app says, and are still on scene as the fire continues.

The Winnipeg Traffic Management Centre (TMC) says in a tweet that as a result of the fire College Ave. is closed between Salter and Andrews.

Powers is also closed between Mountain and Boyd.

The TMC says it is not yet known when the streets might open up.

There is no word at this time on if there are any injuries or the cause of the fire.
