Sold out shows and an amazing glimpse into Egyptian culture was apparent this year at the newest Folklorama pavilion.

Celebrating 50 years of the world's largest multicultural festival in 2019, Folklorama kicked off the festivities this year by announcing the latest addition to the already-stellar Folklorama lineup.

Hala Salama, who was a co-coordinator for Folklorama's first-ever Egyptian Pavilion this year, says that the pavilion's success exceeded their expectations.

"We were so surprised ... kind of astonished at how much success we had. Everybody was so happy, loved it, lots of compliments; it was amazing," she said. "It was just blowing our minds away."

The pavilion, in fact, was so well-loved that nearly every show was sold-out.

"That was the heartbreaking part because we had to turn away so many people and we didn't really like that," shared Salama, who says that they wished that the pavilion could have been able to accommodate everyone who wanted to experience the pavilion.

Salama says that positive energy, smiling faces, and a front-row introduction to the Egyptian culture characterized the pavilion experience for guests.

Each and every guest was welcomed into the group's space at the University of Manitoba's University Centre over Folklorama's first week, leaving visitors amazed and always thoroughly entertained.

"Lots of people came back to me and said, 'you know, we felt as if we are (sic) in Egypt for a week,'" Salama says.

The co-coordinator shared that preparations for next years' pavilion are already underway.

"That week was amazing."
