Update, Wednesday, June 26: Manitoba Infrastructure says Highway 1 is reopening as of 9 p.m. Read more details here.

Monday, June 24:

A busy section of highway just outside of Winnipeg is now closed for several days for construction.

Highway 1, in Headingley, just west of Highway 334, is now closed and will remain closed until June 28 at 9 p.m.

A major construction project on the highway in Headingley has been underway for some time. The complete closure of Highway 1 is to allow for repairs and upgrades to the train crossing.

Detours have been put into place. The RM of Headingley says in a notice that most commercial vehicles will be allowed to use the detour, but long combination vehicles will be limited to travelling in daylight hours.

There is a detour in effect:

  • Westbound traffic will detour from Trans-Canada Highway onto PTH 100 to PTH 3, then onto PTH 2 and then travel on PR 248 north back to Trans-Canada Highway.
  • Eastbound traffic will detour from Trans-Canada Highway onto PTH 13 to PTH 2, then onto PTH 3 before merging back onto Trans-Canada Highway.
  • Long Combination Vehicles (LCVs) will be allowed to travel during daylight hours (sunrise to sunset).

This closure will be in effect until June 28, 2024.
