Sanding trucks have added traction and tow trucks have cleared multiple vehicles from a slippery stretch of highway Saturday morning.

The Cartier Fire Department says in an online post that they were on scene of several collisions Saturday morning.

The westbound lanes of the Trans-Canada Highway were closed at Highway 1 and Road 7 West, between St. Francois Xavier and Elie, Man.

As of 9:30 a.m. the highway has been reopened.

The fire department says that new asphalt became very slick with precipitation and temperatures hovering around the freezing mark.

There is no word on injuries or the number of vehicles involved at this time.
