Prime Minister Justin Trudeau says Canada is investigating the accounts of the fatal Iranian plane crash that took many Canadian lives.

Prime Minister Trudeau confirms that many on the flight were not only Canadians but headed towards Canada. "138 passengers on that flight were connecting to Canada," Trudeau says.

He describes some of the Canadian victims of the crash saying, "a newlywed couple, a family of four, a mom and her two daughters, bright students, and dedicated faculty members, all had so much potential and so much life ahead of them. On behalf of all Canadians, I want to express my deepest condolences to those in mourning."

"Your loss is indescribable. While no words will erase your pain, an entire country is with you, we share your grief," Trudeau says.

"Canadians have questions and they deserve answers."

He recognizes that condolences are not all that Canadians are searching for. "In the coming days and weeks our government will continue to work closely with its partners to ensure that this crash is thoroughly investigated.

"Canadians have questions and they deserve answers," Trudeau says.

The Prime Minister says that multiple ministeries and diplomats are a part of the investigation. He wants to reassure Canadians that this is under control. "I would encourage people to not speculate in the days and weeks to come," he says.

"I am relieved that all personnel deployed in Iraq are safe. Their mission is important and we can all be proud of their work.

The Canadian government is currently working on acquiring the black boxes from the planes so that they may have more information on what caused the crash.

"We are in continuous communication with our international partners and we will keep oppositional parties updated on the changing situation. We continue to encourage de-escalation," Trudeau says.
