Students, staff and faculty at the University of Winnipeg are being asked to change their UWinnipeg passwords after the institution fell victim to a cyberattack just over a week ago.

During a town hall meeting on Monday, the school's president described the attack as targeted and criminal.

Students, staff and faculty have until 8 a.m. Wednesday, April 3, to reset their passwords or risk being locked out of their accounts.

Due to the service outage, the U of W has extended the winter term until April 12. The exam period has also been rescheduled to April 18 - May 2. In light of all the changes, the move-out date for students living on campus has been moved from April 26 to May 3.

At this point, the U of W is not aware of any loss of information. The investigation is continuing.

The institution says they still plan to start the spring term on time, on May 6.
