One Winnipeg family's home is expected to be considered a total loss after a fire on Valentine's Day.

The family home between McPhillips Street and Keewatin Street caught fire Friday and Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Services (WFPS) responded around 7:18 p.m.

A one-and-a-half storey single-family house had caught fire in the 2200 block of Gallagher Avenue and was fully involved with heavy flames and smoke upon crews' arrival.

Aerial ladders were used in a defensive attack by crews to dispense water on the flames from above.

The fire was declared under control around 10:30 p.m., though crews remained on scene through the night to continue to extinguish hot spots.

The home's occupants were all accounted for and no injuries were reported from the incident.

WFPS says the cause of the fire is under investigation and no damage estimates are available at this time. The home is expected, however, to be a complete loss.

A neighbouring home also suffered minor damage as a result of the fire.
