The City of Winnipeg says that military veterans, current serving personnel, including cadets and reservists, and one companion, will be able to ride Winnipeg transit services for free on November 11.

"Providing free transit to veterans and current members of the Canadian armed forces is a way the city is able to recognize the tremendous commitment they have made, and continue to make, to our community and country,” says Mayor Brian Bowman in a release.

“I am very pleased we were able to make this recognition permanent after going through budget process. Thank you to all my Council colleagues who helped make this recognition a permanent feature of our transit service."

The City says that to use the free service personnel simply need to wear their military uniform, or present their military identification or CF1 card.

City buses will also be displaying 'Lest We Forget' as a banner message on bus signs in rotation with the regular route and destination information.

Winnipeg Transit will also be observing a moment of silence in honour of Remembrance Day. At 11 a.m., Transit operators will pull over and stop their buses at safe locations to recognize one minute of silence.

On Monday, November 11, buses will operate on a Sunday schedule.
