A domestic incident on October 18 ended with one person dead, and another recovering in hospital after being shot by police.

When Winnipeg Police were called to a domestic incident in the 300 block of Riverton Avenue that Friday morning, they located deceased adult female inside the residence.

WPS says, "Officers also encountered an adult male, and a confrontation occurred which resulted in an officer-involved shooting. The male was subsequently transported to hospital."

The deceased has been identified as Karen Jane Letniak, a 48-year-old female of Winnipeg.

"A post-mortem examination has determined the cause of the female’s death to be a homicide," says WPS.

The male, who is believed to be known to the victim prior to the incident, remains in hospital in stable condition and will be facing charges

The Independent Investigation Unit of Manitoba is investigating the officer-involved shooting while the investigation of Letniak's death is the responsibility of members from the Winnipeg Police Homicide Unit.
