Drumming and singing filled the air as family, friends, and community members held a vigil Monday night outside a Winnipeg home where police say a woman was slain over the weekend.

The woman has been identified by police as 28-year old Norma Andrews. Family and friends gathered to remember the woman they called Bambi.

Andrews was originally from God's River First Nation in northern Manitoba. She had two young sons.

Police say they were called Saturday afternoon to the home in the 500 block of Balmoral Street for reports of an injured woman, and Andrews was found dead inside. They have not said how Andrews died.

The homicide unit is investigating, and police are asking anyone with information that may help investigators is asked to call 204-986-6508 or Crime Stoppers at 204-786-TIPS (8477).
