One man is in custody after losing control of a stolen luxury car during an early-morning police chase.

On February 11, 2020, at approximately 1:40 a.m., Central District General Patrol officers observers a stolen 2003 Mercedes Benz being operated in the area of Broadway Avenue and Maryland Street.

Officers continued to follow the vehicle from a distance while Air1 responded.

Air1 maintained visibility of the vehicle for approximately 30 minutes. During that time, the vehicle was driven in an erratic manner, disobeying several traffic control devices, and at times, travelling at a high rate of speed, into oncoming traffic, narrowly avoiding a collision.

After crossing over a tire deflation device, the driver eventually lost control of the vehicle on the west Perimeter Highway near Center Port Highway. Upon exiting the vehicle, the driver discarded a loaded shotgun, which was recovered by officers.

A search of the vehicle led to the seizure of a hunting knife, pistol pellet gun, and live ammunition

In addition, a cell phone and identification that had been stolen during a robbery on February 4, 2020, were located in the vehicle. The vehicle being driven was reported stolen on February 9, 2020, from a parking lot in the 1000 block of Notre Dame.

A 32-year-old male of Winnipeg has been charged with numerous firearm, property, and driving offences. He was remanded into custody.
