A popular Christian artist is being vulnerable with a new song in memory of his son who passed away unexpectedly.

On January 9, 2020, TobyMac, shared in an Instagram post announcing the song release that, "The last couple of months have been the hardest I’ve ever faced."

His eldest son, Truett Foster McKeehan died at his home in late October of 2019. TobyMac had been on tour in Canada, playing a show on his birthday the night before, in Winnipeg.

TobyMac shared with fans why he wrote the song although it was difficult. "Part of my process has always been to write about the things I’m going through, but this went to a whole new level. What started out as getting some of my thoughts and feelings about losing my firstborn son down on paper, ended up a song," he says in the post.

"A song I never wanted to write. I hope it’s for someone out there..."

During the song, he 'speaks' to his son saying, "Are you singin' with the angels? Are you happy where you are? Well, until this show is over, and you run into my arms, God has you in Heaven... But I have you in my heart."

The singer then goes on to ask God for understanding and shares with listeners that he simply misses his son.

The song ends candidly with the words "Thank you Lord for my beautiful son."

He hopes fans will connect with the raw, and honest song saying, it is "a song I never wanted to write. I hope it’s for someone out there, or maybe it’s just for me."
