Everyone is invited to join in on the Wave of Light event to remember the lives of babies who were taken too soon from their families.

The Wave of Light is an international event that occurs all around the world, various non-profits take on the task of promoting the event in their areas, such as Angel Baby.

"Angel Baby is a pregnancy and infant loss initiative that Life Culture Canada has put on," says Life Culture Canada Executive Director, Susan Penner. "We run a monthly support group, we have an online memorial wall where women can post a tribute to a baby they've lost while in the womb or shortly after. So, we basically want to support women who have gone through some sort of pregnancy or infant loss."

Wave of Light is an event that aims to bring awareness to the lives of unborn babies, or short-lived infants. On Saturday, October 15, no matter which timezone, at 7 p.m. everyone is encouraged to light a candle and place it in the window for passersby to see. The idea is that it will create a continuous 24-hour wave of light, which sparked the name of the event.

"We have little candles that we are giving to women who want to stop by and pick one up and then they can participate in the Wave of Light. Our office is in Steinbach Unit E 98 Brandt Street. We've probably had close to 50 candles go out already for this event and then it's on this Saturday so then there are a few more days for people to come up. Some people are coming and picking them up to gift to a friend who's lost a baby and others are just doing it in remembrance. So, either way, anybody can participate."

Penner says that an event like this is important for women to grieve over their loss.

"I think we live in a bit of a challenging time when it comes to the unborn. What we want to do is validate the life of the baby in the womb, this humanizes the baby and then also validates the grief of the mother or families who are going through this."

Angel Baby offers resources for mourning women, such as monthly support groups, they also offer opportunities for women to create a tribute on its website with a memorial wall along with a blog for those who wish to share their story.
