The Winnipeg Fire and Paramedic Services were kept busy with two fires last night in the North End and in Saint Vital.

At 2:14 a.m. on Monday, April 17, 2023, the WFPS responded to reports of a fire in a boarded multi-unit building in the 200 block of Selkirk Avenue.

At the scene, crews saw heavy flames and smoke coming from the building. Firefighters attacked the fire from the outside until it was safe to enter. Firefighters located one person inside the house and paramedics transported them to the hospital in critical condition.

Firefighters declared the fire under control at 2:58 a.m.

The cause of the fire is under investigation. No damage estimates are available.

During the event, a vehicle drove over the hose lines used to fight the fire. WFPS reminds drivers to never drive over hose lines at a fire scene, as it can cause serious injury to crews. Drivers can receive a ticket for this offence under the Highway Traffic Act.
