A 14-year-old girl is home safe and her abductor in police custody afterbeing lured and kidnapped in early December.
Almost one year ago a Winnipeg girl started communicating online with a 27-year-old man from Edmonton. After talking for approximately seven months, the 14-year-old girl vanished, leaving a note, stating she was running away from home.
The Winnipeg Police Service received a report that the girl was missing on December 2.
One day after the police report was made, Edmonton Police successfully located the girl in the residence of her 27-year-old abductor's home.
She was safely returned home to Winnipeg by Edmonton authorities.
After a months-long Counter Exploitation Unit investigation, the 27-year-old abductor turned himself into Winnipeg's police headquarters on Friday.
The man is being charged with three counts of Luring a Person Under 14 years of age by Means of Telecommunication, one count of Luring a Person Under 16 years of age by Means of Telecommunication, Abduction of Person Under Fourteen Years of Age, and Abduction of Person Under Sixteen years of age.
