The grade three class at Winkler's J.R. Walkof Elementary School brought a new twist to Handel's "Messiah."

The class recorded a video starring the kids performing Handel's most famous work, but withe cue cards rather than singing. The class' teacher, Katherine Penner, says that she saw a grade five class from Alaska do something similar a few years ago, and decided to try it out.

Penner says that she and the kids recorded the video a little bit at a time over the course of a few days. "After the first day, I put the little bit I had together and showed it to them the next day. Then they got quite excited," to record the rest of the video.

Penner says the response has been great. "They're pretty excited. They feel like they're famous. It's pretty great for them to get credit for what they've done. I always tell them 'You know, it always pays to do your best.'" Penner says because of that it's been a good teachable moment.

For Penner projects like this are what she loves about teaching. "Being able to something that we can pour some creativity into. It gets the kids excited, and the kids' excitement fuels my energy."

As for next year, Penner says that there are no ideas yet.
