A dog park club in Winnipeg posted an urgent warning to dog owners after an incident Friday involving contaminated meat.

Kilcona Park Dog Club is urging dog owners to keep an eye on what their dogs are eating in the park.

"There have been several reports of contaminated meat and bones left near the pond trail," the club said in an online post.

The message to members shared that one member's dog had eaten some of the suspicious meat left along the trail and "has since become very ill."

Kilcona Park Dog Club says they are working alongside park staff to monitor the issue.

"The afternoon park staff checked the trails for meat and bones and will continue to monitor and share information," Kilcona Dog Park Club says.

The club is reminding members to be vigilant. "If you observe suspicious behaviour, use your cellphone and take a photo or get a license plate number," the club instructs.

"If you find meat or bones, bag and remove them to ensure that other dogs are not harmed."

The group also asks that any found meat or bones remain sealed so they may be tested to determine their danger.

Any incidents are asked to be reported to the Kilcona Park Dog Club by email.
