The Winnipeg Ice are set on making it to the WHL Finals this year as they already take the lead in the third-round playoff series against the Saskatoon Blades over the weekend.

The two teams played each other for the first time in the playoff series on Friday, with the Ice taking the win 3-0. Ben Zloty, Zach Ostapchuk and Carson Lambos put the Ice on the board.

The Ice outshot the Blades 28-16, with Daniel Hauser earning the victory in net by making all 16 saves.

It wasn't until the third period in Game Two on Saturday when the Blades found themselves on the scoreboard, but still losing to the Ice 6-2.

Connor McClennon became the star of the game by scoring a hat trick. McClennon was also named the WHL Player of the Week as he led all WHL skaters with five goals this past week. Making 12 post-season appearances this spring, McClennon sets second among Winnipeg scoring leaders during playoffs.

Zach Benson, Owen Pederson and Matthew Savoie were the other players to find the back of the net on Saturday's game.

Saskatoon almost doubled their shots on net from the previous game with 29, but the Ice still had more shots on their opponent's goaltender with 33.

The series will now be hosted in Saskatoon for Games Three and Four on May 2 and 3 at the SaskTel Centre.
