Investigators with the Homicide Unit have located the suspect in a murder investigation that took place three days ago.

On the evening of July 8, WPS responded to the report of an assaulted male in a residential suite in the 300 block of Langside Street.

When officers arrived at the scene, they found the victim deceased and has been identified as a 64-year-old man from Winnipeg, Marcel Alphnse Painchaud.

The Homicide Unit took over the investigation and on July 10, a 42-year-old man, Abdiazia Ahmed Saeed, was arrested for the murder of Painchaud.

Throughout the investigation, the Homicide Unit determined the accused and the victim were tenants in the same building and known to each other. An altercation occurred in the victim's suite where Saeed fatally stabbed him.

Saeed has been charged with Second Degree Murder and detained in custody.
