300 socially-distanced people received a hot Easter dinner from Lighthouse Mission Friday night.

Winnipeg's downtown community was able to celebrate Easter in the midst of COVID-19 last night at Lighthouse Mission.

"Our mission has always been to be a light and give hope to the community we serve," says Beverly Ajtay, Operations Manager at Lighthouse.

A hot meal is only one way Lighthouse is trying to be that light.

Ajtay says everyone who picked up an Easter meal to-go last night received a treat bag filled with chocolate eggs, an Easter card handmade by a young person in Manitoba, and a book called, Hope Within Reach.

"The Hope book is a way to provide encouragement to our community during a time when their regular Friday night church messages have not been bale to happen because of the response to the virus," Ajtay says.

The Mission is located on Main Street in downtown Winnipeg, between Logan and Higgens Ave. 300 people a day are fed through the week at the soup kitchen, which, under normal circumstances, also gives visitors a warm place to eat in addition to community, friendship, and spiritual hope.
