Winnipeg Police are investigating after an explosive device was found in an apartment complex while officers were investigating a homicide.

At around 5:45 p.m. on Friday, September 15, officers located a suspicious item believed to be an improvised explosive device (IED).

Officers evacuated the building, and the Bomb Unit was called to the scene. 

The Bomb Unit assessed the IED and determined it was live and presented a public safety risk. The team safely disrupted the IED, and no injuries occurred. 

The investigation is continuing by members of the Homicide Unit.
