People across Winnipeg are getting up early this weekend to pick up free items from curbsides across the city!

It's the biannual Winnipeg Spring Curbside Giveaway Weekend. On May 13 and 14, put your reusable, unwanted items on the curb then head out and browse the streets for some great finds.

If you are giving away items, the City of Winnipeg says that you should:

  • Place unwanted household items at the curb on your front street.
  • Label each item wtih a FREE sticker or sign.
  • Store items out of sight that you don't want to give away.
  • Remove leftover items from the curb by dusk on Sunday.

Giveaway items in the pst have included books, furniture, sports equipment, construction materials and more. However, you should not put out:

  • Items that could be unsafe
  • Items that could harbour bed bugs (mattresses, bedding, cushioned furniture)
  • Toilets (with a flush volume of 13 litres or more)

If you are going to be driving around looking for hidden treasures, please only take items at the curb that are marked free. Make sure you check each item closely to make sure it's safe before putting it in your vehicle. Do not walk or drive on private lawns and continue to obey all traffic laws.

You can get more information by contacting the City of Winnipeg.
