Winnipeg's new artificial Christmas tree has just been set up in the heart of the city.

The cities first artificial Christmas tree is really, "no different from your tree at home" says Public Service Operations Supervisor, Derek Resch, "it took a little bit of fluffing and sorting out.

The tree itself stands at 28 ft tall and it is adorned by a custom-built start topper that has LED lights on it as well, so it's power consumption will be extremely low."

This tree will be light up and shinning all season as each branch of the new tree has 100 mini LED lights, making for a total of 15,400 LED lights.

Resch explained, "instead of removing an actual tree every year we have decided to go with an artificial tree, it is a more sustainable solution, within about two years it will have paid for itself in terms of economic value."

We will be seeing this tree for years to come in Winnipeg as the tree has a ten-year warranty and is "designed to last."
