Winnipeg Police Service is asking for the public's assistance after an attempted automobile theft on Tuesday afternoon.

At approximately 3:30 p.m., police were called to the 500 block of Portage Avenue after a vehicle crashed into the CBC building on the Young Street side.

The owner of the vehicle had gone into a business, while his wife and 18-year-old child stayed in the parked car. An unknown male got into the vehicle, attempting to steal it when the collision occurred. The suspect fled when police were called after the female passenger had been assaulted on the ground.

Paramedics were called, and the female did not have any serious injuries. The teen passenger had exited the vehicle.

Officers on the scene met with witnesses, and this investigation is continuing by the Major Crimes Unit.
