The Rock at Youth for Christ Winnipeg is ready for fall programming, with a camp during the final two weeks of August to kick it off.

After some turnover in staff and a brief shutdown period, The Rock at YFC Winnipeg is getting ready for fall, kicking things off with a climbing camp during the last two weeks of August.

"We are using [the turnover in staff] to bring about new programming and changes to the wall," said Janna Woelk, the new director of The Rock. "We are running two weeks of day camps . . . and those are for children aged 8-12."

Woelk has taken on the challenge of directing The Rock, which is a bit of a change from her previous career.

"[I became] a register nurse, so I've been doing nursing for the past couple years," Woelk said. "It's really exposed me to Winnipeg . . . and it's given me a passion for promoting health and investing in youth.

"I felt a calling from God that this is something I needed to pursue."

Climbing is not Woelk's thing normally and has still not made it to the top of the wall. For Michaél Scribnock, however, climbing is part of his life.

"I've been looking for a job and a passion," the new Rock coordinator said. "I found out about this program, they were looking for someone . . . it lines up with exactly what I like doing."

Space is still available for both camps, which run August 21 to 25 and from August 28 to September 1 in the morning.
