Winnipeg Public Library announces next Maker-in-Residence
The next Maker-in-Residence has been selected by the Winnipeg Public Library. Shivanya Ra is an emerging disabled visual artist, curator, and advocate for disability representation and accessibility. During her term, weekly sensory-friendly drop-ins are open to all. “My creative journey is rooted in a desire to make meaningful contributions through visual art. Through drawing, painting, printmaking, photography, collage, curated installations, and interactive elements, I seek to redefine both myself and the world around me,” said Ra in an email release. “I aim to invite dialogue, encourage reflection, and most of all, spark curiosity. Art is a bridge—a visceral language for communicating the complexities of identity, space, and human and environmental connections.” The program operates out of the ideaMILL at Millennium Library. Ra's terms will run from September 10 through December 11 and will be the last Maker-in-Residence term of 2025. Callen Maude is the current Maker-in-residence and Maude's term continues to October 9, 2025. Maker-in-Residences will be back in 2026, and interested makers can stay tuned for application details. A schedule of upcoming drop-in and registered programs can be seen here.
