A man is dead following a fire early Saturday morning in the city's West End.

Just after 5 a.m., the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responded to a fire at a residence in the 600 block of Furby Street.

Three occupants were transported to hospital, two in stable condition and one in critical condition.

The critical patient, an adult male, has since succumbed to his injuries.

The Homicide Unit is investigating.

Meanwhile, Winnipeg Police are investigating a second fire that broke out at 4:40 a.m. in an apartment complex in the 400 block of Kennedy Street.

Four occupants were rescued from the building, three were transported to hospital, two in stable condition and one in critical condition.

The Major Crimes unit is investigating.

The cause of both fires remains under investigation.
