The Winnipeg Police Service (WPS) has finally identified and arrested a teenage girl after a serious assault that happened in the middle of April.

According to the news release on April 17, the WPS responded to a call about teenagers beating up a 13-year-old girl in a parking lot at Madison Street and Ness Avenue.

Someone passing by called the police and told them that a young girl was being kicked and punched until she went unconscious while other teenagers were recording the incident on their phones while encouraging the fight to continue.

When the police arrived the victim was unconscious and her backpack was stolen. Once the teenagers heard the sirens they fled the scene.

The 13-year-old girl was taken to the hospital in unstable condition as she had sustained serious head and facial injuries. She was eventually upgraded to stable condition.

Upon their investigation, the Major Crimes Unit found out that the victim and suspect knew one another. Once they identified the suspect, on May 28, 2024, a search warrant was executed at a residence in the 700 block of Machray Avenue. A 15-year-old girl from Winnipeg was arrested and taken into custody.

She is facing charges of Robbery and Aggravated Assault, and she has been detained in custody.
