A Winnipeg teenager is in police custody and facing two charges in relation to a collision which claimed the life of a cyclist on Thursday morning.

Police and emergency services were called to the area of Wellington Crescent and Cockburn Street North around 7 a.m. for reports of the collision.

A 61-year-old victim was transported to hospital in critical condition, where he succumbed to his injuries.

The WPS reported on Thursday that the fatal collision was a hit-and-run, and a suspect vehicle had been recovered.

On Friday, June 7, just after Noon, the WPS updated saying that the investigation continued by members of the Traffic Division. Investigators allege that a white BMW was being operated at a high rate of speed when it struck the cyclist, causing fatal injuries.

A 19-year-old, has been arrested and charged with Dangerous Operation of a Conveyance Causing Death, and Fail to Stop at the Scene of an Accident.

He was detained in custody.
