Winnipeg firefighters battled two fires at vacant buildings just blocks apart and within hours of each other last night.

Crews were first called just after 6 p.m. on Wednesday to the 300 block of Burrows Avenue.

Firefighters found "a well-involved fire with heavy smoke and flames venting from the structure" when they arrived at the vacant bungalow. A defensive attack was launched, and the fire was declared under control at 6:42 p.m. Once it was safe to do so, crews entered the structure to fully extinguish all hot spots.

Crews completed a search of the structure and no occupants were found. One neighbouring home was temporarily evacuated as a precaution. No injuries were reported.

The cause of the fire is under investigation. No damage estimates are available at this time. The home had suffered significant damage in a previous fire in May 2021.
