Manitoba First Nation Police officers are investigating a motor vehicle collision that claimed the life of a toddler.

On August 18, MFNPS were called to Sandy Bay First Nation. When police arrived, they located a 21-month-old on the driveway of a local residence, where EMS attempted life-saving measures.

A preliminary investigation shows the child walked behind the vehicle, which was backing out, and was struck.

The child was transported to the Portage la Prairie Hospital, where they succumbed to their injuries.

The investigation remains ongoing.
