The Winnipeg Humane Society (WHS) is being overrun with cats, so they are waiving the adoption fees for cats who have previously had the cold.

142 cats are having their adoption fee waived from June 1-4. All the cats have had or been exposed to a 'cat cold', but they have no symptoms. Many of the cats adopted will never show signs of the cold again.

The 'cat cold' is an Upper Respiratory Infection (URI) that is quite similar to what a human expereinces when they have the cold.

Kyle Jahns for the WHS said cats with a URI can have discharge running from their nose, can have trouble breathing, and can get very lethargic. The cats that have had the cold need to be kept seperate from the other cats who that they don't pass off the infection. This is causing the WHS to have a problem with their space.

If your adopted cat shows any symptoms within the first three months, WHS will give them a full health check at their clinic.
