Alex Trebek is sharing the "value of living and hope" thanks to the prayers said on his behalf.

After being the host of the show for 36 years, Trebek announced 2019 that he was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer which has an 18% survival rate after the first year.

Today, he gave an update on his condition.

"It would have been a betrayal of my faith in God and the millions of prayers that have been said on my behalf."

"Sudden massive attacks of great depression made me wonder if it really was worth fighting on. I brushed that aside quickly because that would have been a massive betrayal," Trebek says in a video. "It would have been a betrayal of my faith in God and the millions of prayers that have been said on my behalf," he adds.

The game show host has many supporters on social media including people praying for his recovery and supporting him.

Trebek has faith that he will be celebrating again next year.

"My oncologist tried to cheer me up the other day. He said 'Alex, even though the two-year survival rate is only seven percent, he was certain that one year from now the two of us would be sitting in his office celebrating my second anniversary of survival.'.

Trebek closes off with words of motivation for his audience. "If we take it just one day at a time, with a positive attitude, anything is possible."

He adds that he will "keep (his fans) posted" on his condition.
