The day before the Grey Cup one of the Bombers has added some new hardware to his trophy case.

Defensive Tackle Drake Nevis received the Athletes in Action Gord Barwell Award.

Nevis received the award at the annual AIA Grey Cup breakfast Saturday morning in Calgary.

The award is presented each year to a CFL player who exhibits exemplary Christian conduct and leadership both on and off of the field.

Past Blue Bombers who have received the award include Milt Stegall, Barrin Simpson, and Mike Renaud.

Nevis is the Bombers' chapel leader. At this year's Pro Sports and Faith Night, Nevis said that he and his wife, Reese, felt called back to Winnipeg this year to not only play but to serve God in the community. Both are regular volunteers at downtown ministry Love Lives Here.

Nevis had 24 defensive tackles and three sacks in the 2019 regular season.

The Bombers face the Hamilton Tiger-Cats in the 107th Grey Cup on Sunday afternoon at 5 p.m.
