A Christian best-selling author and speaker is on a mission to get people to slow down in their lifestyles based on scriptural teachings.

Jefferson Bethke, who became well-known through his viral videos is now speaking out about the outrageous pace we conduct our lives in. He released a new book on the topic called To Hell With the Hustle.

He and his wife had just gotten married, purchased a house, and settled into their jobs, but they felt something was missing. We were looking at what was in our hands and saying "man, this isn't producing what we wanted it to produce," Bethke says to Faithwire.

They wanted "more purpose, more meaning, more depth, and more life," Bethke says. He went back to the scriptures for answers because he felt that he was doing the right cultural things but that it needed to be what Jesus said was right.

"Jesus shows us how to navigate that tension and how to live a life that has margin and space."

"He gives us a vision for our life but there's also another part of the puzzle that we don't talk about. It's that Jesus gives us a pace, a different pace, a different way to live. That's the significant missing piece in our culture that's allowing all the other things to not have as much life in them. If you're not doing them at the spirit and pace of Jesus then you're kinda still doing them at the culture's timetable. The hustle and the hurry corrode and eat away at anything good that you might be doing in the first place," Bethke says to FW.

He uses Jesus' life as an example, stating that Jesus lived at a certain speed. "He had a purpose and a vision. A lot of us have no purpose and are living constantly by everyone else's demands. Jesus shows us how to navigate that tension and how to live a life that has margin and space," Bethke says to FW.

The popular author says when people are hurried they miss opportunities to show love and they miss chances to pour into people. He says, "the two greatest commandments are love God, and love neighbour. How can you do that well unless you slow down and are present under the submission of the Lordship of Jesus who's asking the Spirit to reveal and move to you every single moment as you go?

"That practice creates a rich, deep, and beautiful human that we need more of today," Bethke says.

In his book, he also provides tips on how to combat the main focuses in our world that he believes scripture goes against.
