Cattle market sales seem to be improving in Manitoba, says Allan Munroe, a businessman in the province.

Munroe, owner of the Killarney Auction Mart, says their numbers have been steady so far this winter, and sales have averaged between 700 and 1000 head of cattle.  "There's been some big groups with fancy cattle coming in so those are really fun sales to have!"

He adds there are always some hiccups in the markets, and one of the most recent ones is the coronavirus which brings about fear and can produce lower prices.

"There always seems to be eternal optimism on the light cattle this time of year," explains Munroe.  "Right now I think the coronavirus has brought the future's down on the fat cattle, so that is hurting the bigger end of it of the calves coming to town."

"One of my producers had 224 calves here and a lot were 700 pound cattle right up to 800 pounds, and he told me this morning that its the third highest cheque he's had in his life."
