Brooke Nicholls just broke onto the scene but has already opened for big names and won multiple awards.

Nicholls started as a pop singer in her early twenties. She also led worship at her local church in Toronto, Ontario. But three years ago, she felt God calling her to write songs for the church.

"It was really hard 'cause I didn't want to," Nicholls admitted. "I love writing love songs, and God just said you need to start writing songs for the church."

The switch worked, as Nicholls was nominated for and won New Artist of the Year and Female Vocalist of the Year at the Canadian Gospel Music Awards.

"It was incredible to win these awards," Nicholls said, almost speechless."God is faithful when we are obedient."

Since writing Christian music, Nicholls has been able to tour with The Color and has opened for bands like MercyMe, The City Harmonic, Dan Bremnes and even Hillsong.

Her newest single, Pursue, comes out of Psalm 119. Nicholls sat on that passage for a year before she was able to pull a song out of it.

"(God) said I want you to be bold, I want you to be fearless, I want you to love and be courageous, but more than anything, I want you to pursue me," Nicholls said.

The single is just about ready for release, but for Nicholls, it can't come soon enough.

"It feels like I've been waiting seven years for this," Nicholls laughed.

Nicholls and her husband Steve Lensink, who is also her guitar player, are in Manitoba to worship at New Life Church in Stonewall Friday at 7:00 p.m. Nicholls says that everyone is invited to join in worship with them.
